Why the independents matter

I care about design, memory and stubborn local spirit, the forces that turn buildings, mountains and city blocks into places worth returning to.

A mountain argument, a powder-day dispatch and a housing idea at Dan Ventures. Together they explain most of what I care about: place, craft and the practical work behind both.

I’m a real estate developer, lifelong skier and student of cities. I’m interested in how thoughtful design becomes real, and why certain places keep earning my return.
Boston gave me my roots. Vermont sharpened my mountain instincts. Orlando is home now. Through all of it: housing, music, food, technology, and the ongoing work of living more honestly.
I grew up in Massachusetts and headed to Vermont for college. New England gave me my roots, and its mountains became a lifelong constant. Skiing still shapes my winters.
A chapter focused on mobile app development, product thinking and a fast-moving mobile era. The tools changed; my instinct to build stayed.
Street art, live music and urban change became a close-up education in what gives a neighborhood its identity.
Years of concerts across the country, culminating in the all-enveloping sound and scale of the Sphere.
Counterpoint, Treeline and Common Frame bring together residential property, mountain communities and attainable housing. The Jacksonville infill lab explores new construction methods through two projects in design.
I began writing more directly about independent ski areas, resort economics, accountability and the work of personal growth.

Mountains & memory
The best mountains are more than terrain maps and lift counts. They are memory, economics, local culture and the accumulation of small decisions that either preserve character or erase it.

I write when a place, a business model or a hard-earned truth deserves a clearer sentence. The tone changes; the point is to notice what is really happening.
On corporate resort economics, early closures and the communities that absorb the consequences.
